- Amna began her career in 2003 at NBC. After that, she joined Dateline NBC in which she worked on documentaries. Later, she became a producer of Mortgage Crisis Investigations which got a nomination for the 2008 Emmy Awards for Business & Financial Reporting.Â
- After 2010, she was appointed as a correspondent and bureau chief at NBC’s Islamabad bureau. In 2015, Nawaz joined ABC News and anchored the U.S. election and national political coverage in 2016 and 2017. She also hosted the ABC podcast series called ‘’uncomfortable’’. Apart from these, she worked as a correspondent on the PBS NewsHour’s 2018 series titled ”The Plastic Problem”, which won a Peabody Award in 2019.
- In December 2019, Nawaz became the first Asian American and first Muslim to moderate a United States presidential debate when she co-moderated a Democratic Party presidential debate.
